Indie Rock Royalty

This profile of Grizzly Bear has been making the rounds, making the argument that being an Indie-rock star isn’t as lucrative as one may think and that in order to break through that you need to get radio play—even in the year 2012.

There’s also this response that points out that Grizzly Bear wants to get radio play, but then don’t write HITS that get played on the radio.

What’s truly strange to me is how divorced these guys seem to be from the old-school music notion of writing “a hit” — a song that moves units, yes, but also moves asses (and hearts) — while simultaneously being baffled by why their songs aren’t played on the radio.
