Unfortunately, I think this bit on religion and secularism is true:
Whatever your personal religious views, you need to realize that about half of American philanthropy, volunteering and associational memberships is directly church-related, and that religious Americans also account for much more nonreligious social capital than their secular neighbors.
As neighborhoods become more and more secular than they ever have been we need to come up with ways to support those communities that aren’t intrinsically tied to religion. 1
