The speakers on my iMac at work died a weird death,1 so rather than put in a request for a repair I decided to get cheap speakers that would probably sound better than internal speakers anyway.
Since they were only $10 I went for these Logitech S150 speakers.
They are a USB model and show up as a separate audio device. These will be my first and last pair of USB speakers.
They sound decent, but the default is LOUD. Holy shit. So goddamn loud. My volume is set to the absolute minimum and they’re still too loud. I set the iTunes volume to the absolute minimum and they’re still too loud. I ended up doing this in the iTunes EQ.
After that there’s a difference between soft and loud when I change the iTunes volume. Any other notifications, like the standard beeps and bumps, are still pretty loud.
So don’t buy USB speakers.
One channel is fine. The other’s volume went way down and doesn’t play anything under 13khz (that’s a guess). ↩
