“Annals of Invention: The Flash of Genius” by John Seabrook

Bob Kearns and his patented windshield wiper have been winning millions of dollars in settlements from the auto industry, and forcing the issue of who owns an idea.

This is the original 1993 New Yorker article that the movie Flash of Genius is based upon. While the movie feels like a David vs. Goliath legal battle, I get the feeling that it’s a little more complicated than that after reading this article.

Also, note the similarities between the Selden Patent mentioned in the article and what just went down this year with Lodsys and iOS developers using Apple’s in-app purchase mechanism.
