Borden graduated from Whitehall in 2005 as the class valedictorian. The day of graduation, she swapped out the speech her principal had approved with one that spoke to her bullies.
“It was you who taught me, and many others, that being part of the crowd is not worth rescinding our beliefs. It was you who taught us the value of an independent mind, and who gave us added drive to succeed. I thank you for showing me precisely what kind of person I never want to become,” she said to the assembly of students, parents and faculty.
