Rdio API Out

…The API gives developers the ability to create web applications that can search, access and play all of the artists, songs, albums, playlists, and top charts in Rdio’s catalog.

I don’t know much about software development, so this might be way off, but this reads like there’s no way for Windows, Mac and Linux developers to use the API.1

Sounds ridiculous, so I suspect that I’m wrong. But why emphasize web applications?

Anyway – potentially excellent news for Rdio users. The streaming music service could have a software landscape as rich as Twitter’s.

  1. Edit — The Web Playback API requires Flash, which pretty much explains why there’s no desktop specific language in their announcement. Surely the iOS playback model, whenever it comes, won’t require Flash. So why not create something like that for desktop applications?
