Maybe Spotify should just give up their free accounts in the United States

Some of the labels are unconvinced of Spotify’s business model and its ability to get people to pay for music; Apple executives have expressed concern to the labels that a free music service here could undercut already lackluster download sales; at least one label chief, Edgar Bronfman Jr., chairman and CEO of Warner Music Group, has lost confidence in ad-supported models.

This streaming service thing is beginning to feel like a race to the bottom. Even with the paid streaming services like Rdio and Mog (two services that said “no thank you” to a freemium model), I wonder why music labels would be so willing to go for a cut of $10 per user when they could get the $10 per album download, unless album sales are really that close to completely collapsing.
