How Girl Talk Is Like Weird Al

I like some trance music, and I also like Ferry Corsten. And while I’m on the subject, I like Girl Talk too.

But I wonder if the reason I like stuff like Girl Talk and other tracks that build on top of previous tracks is because they take loops from songs I already like.

For example, Duran Duran’s Serious

Compared to Ferry Corsten’s Fire

And an example from Girl Talk

I don’t want to discount the artistic validity of this stuff, but in a way it seems like Weird Al on a different level: Smash hit comes out, rewrite the smash hit, the rewrite becomes a hit.

Almost doesn’t seem right.
