In an interview about the Kindle, Jeff Bezos explained how Amazon has to compete with traditional retail stores by doing things that retail can’t do. Amazon never perfected book signings – but they mop the floor in helping customers make decisions through customer reviews.

So what are the things that you can’t do with print that you can do with digital technologies? That’s where music packaging is going.

Edit: Does anyone else think that a Digital Booklet is something that you should get automatically when ripping a CD to iTunes, just like the artwork?

  1. Every digital album should come with high rez cover art, and liner notes (imho). It would be nice to see some standardization of ID3 tags, but that’s probably not going to happen. <br/><br/>Here’s a site to find some good album art tools for current digital music.
