How is it that price indicates what a tool should be used for?

Now that Logic 8 is out and has had an extreme price reduction I think it's accurate to say that Apple is going for the NEXT generation of producers. $200 for Logic Express vs. Garageband for a new user? They're going with Logic Express. And if they open their own production studio - moving up to Logic Pro.

They aren't converting PT users - they're keeping people from even becoming PT users.

With respect to the new Logic (or whatever other name Apple concocts), the DAW will NOT be a ProTools killer. Protools prices their LOWEST ProTools product (HD| 1) at $7,995.95, which is already 8x the price of Logic Pro. When taking into account the prices of the two DAW's, the value derived from Logic Pro is a STEAL compared to Protools!

Unless Apple jacks up their price of the DAW successor of Logic, it will not be a ProTools killer, and I don't see Apple doing that. They are targeting the prosumer, and not necessarily the upper upper end of the music production world (hence the price of Logic in the first place). Replies are very much welcome.

Logic does have some Live-like ability in Touch Tracks, but they do not trigger audio regions.

For Logic to become a real contender on stage it needs to be stable, easy to use, and be able to integrate well with other musicians.

The tough part for Apple is focusing on the needs of all the kinds of music that could be played. Solely electronic artists will want the flexibility of Live; backing tracks, tempo changes, remixing on the fly…

But if you're the keyboard player in a band, Logic seems to be fine as it is.

Logic is at home in the studio, but I would think that Apple has already taken a look at applications like OnStage and thought of how they could take a crack at providing solutions for what these things do.

Beign a forward thinking program, do you think that Logic can be aiming at the live performance market in the Logic 8 edition?

Since boudaries between DJ and producer are becoming less defined a lot of potential producers stay with Ableton becasue they know how it operates and in love with it's swinger mode.

I know infusion guys are using logic in a live set now but I would assume it is a real pain in the neck at this point

I want to see the sound quality of logic and more stage friendlieness in one universal package.

I'd hate to lose screensets and custom key commands. I work logic every day n a pro studio (NO PROTOOLS) and the need to learn a whole new workflow would sure slow thing down!
