Columbia House Waving Goodbye

So, I just noticed this morning that the Columbia House Music Club is closing down in September. They’re converting their current accounts to BMG accounts.

Sony BMG probably either drove them out of business or they consolidated (I don’t remember if Sony owns Columbia House).

Hopefully we’ll see a bigger catalog at BMG. Columbia House’s library wasn’t great, but there were a few things that I would’ve liked to get from there (I think they had some Aphex Twin).

With only one record club in the United States, it’ll be interesting to see if membership agreements change or if prices go up. Then again, regular CD prices at BMG are high to begin with. It’s the deals you’ve got to watch out for.
